Common Faults and Maintenance Strategies for Hydraulic Press Brake Machines

Common Faults and Maintenance Strategies for Hydraulic Press Brake Machines

Introduction

Hydraulic press brake machines are crucial equipment in modern manufacturing, with their stability directly impacting production efficiency and product quality. However, these machines may encounter various technical issues during daily operations, leading to downtime and production losses. This article will discuss common faults of hydraulic press brake machines, providing detailed fault diagnosis and maintenance guidelines to help technicians swiftly address issues and ensure the efficient operation of equipment.

I. Fault One: Lack of Pressure in Hydraulic System

1. Fault Diagnosis

The lack of pressure in the hydraulic system is a common reason for the hydraulic press brake machine not functioning properly. This situation may be caused by several factors:

- Proportional relief valve issues: Check if the electromagnetic coil of the proportional relief valve is powered and if the voltage meets requirements. Electrical issues are often the main cause of relief valve malfunctions.

- Stuck pilot valve or main spool: This can prevent the hydraulic system from establishing normal pressure. If the damping orifice is blocked, dismantle the relief valve, thoroughly clean it, and reinstall it.

- Three-phase power supply issues: Adjust the phase sequence of the three-phase power supply to ensure the motor does not reverse due to incorrect phase sequence.

2. Maintenance Strategy

- Inspect and replace electromagnetic coils: If damaged coils or mismatched voltages are found, replace them promptly.

- Clean valves: Disassemble and clean pilot valves and main spools to ensure there are no foreign objects or dirt inside.

- Adjust power phase sequence: If the motor reverses, check the power line connections and adjust them to the correct phase sequence.

II. Fault Two: Slider Shifts from Fast to Slow, Experiencing Prolonged Pauses

1. Fault Diagnosis

When the slider of the hydraulic press brake machine suddenly slows down or even pauses after rapid descent, it may be due to several reasons:

- Low oil level in the tank: A low oil level causes air suction in the upper chamber of the cylinder during rapid advance, leading to insufficient refilling.

- Excessive rapid advance speed: Excessive speed may prevent the system from replenishing sufficient hydraulic oil in time.

- Filling valve issues: Contamination or sticking of the filling valve can hinder the flexibility of the valve core, affecting the flow of hydraulic oil.

2. Maintenance Strategy

- Adjust oil level: Ensure the oil level in the tank is sufficient, covering the filling port by at least 5mm to prevent air suction.

- Adjust rapid advance speed: Lower the rapid advance speed appropriately by modifying system parameters to ensure hydraulic system stability.

- Clean filling valves: Regularly clean filling valves to maintain the flexibility of the valve core and ensure smooth flow of hydraulic oil.

III. Fault Three: Slider Returns Normally but Manual Slow Movement is Weak

1. Fault Diagnosis

This fault is common in the control system of hydraulic press brake machines and is mainly characterized by:

- Malfunction of the "two-position four-way" directional valve: Failure of this directional valve prevents the filling valve from closing in time, affecting pressure buildup.

- Stuck filling valve: A stuck valve hinders the normal flow of hydraulic oil, resulting in insufficient power.

2. Maintenance Strategy

- Check directional valve power supply: Ensure the directional valve has a normal power supply and is not physically blocked.

- Clean and adjust filling valves: If the filling valve is stuck, clean and adjust it immediately to ensure normal operation.

IV. Fault Four: Slow Slider Return Speed, High Return Pressure

1. Fault Diagnosis

Slow slider return speed is often related to the operation of the filling valve, especially when the issue with the filling valve from Fault Three has not been resolved.

2. Maintenance Strategy

- Adjust the filling valve: Ensure the filling valve is fully open, allowing hydraulic oil to flow freely and eliminating return resistance.

- Check hydraulic system pressure: If issues persist after adjusting the filling valve, further inspect the overall pressure settings of the hydraulic system to ensure it is within the normal range.

The efficient operation of hydraulic press brake machines relies on the coordinated work of all system components. By understanding common faults and implementing correct maintenance strategies, downtime can be significantly reduced, and production efficiency improved. Regular maintenance and fault prevention will be key to ensuring long-term stable operation of the equipment.
