How to Use the Lower Die for Bending

Selection of the V-groove affects the unfolding factor of the workpiece.

The choice of V-groove affects the minimum bend.

Eccentric bending with V-groove can achieve a smaller size than the minimum bend, depending on product requirements. Also, a reminder from experienced benders that this operation is not safe.

1. Choose appropriate molds based on the shape, size, and inner R angle indicated on the process drawings after the workpiece is formed.

2. Consider potential anomalies that may occur during the forming process, such as burrs, bulges, rivets, bends, tool collisions, machine collisions, workpiece collisions, etc.

Selection of the lower die "V" groove width:

1. According to the standard bending requirements, with inner R angles ranging from 0.2 to 0.5, the width of the "V" groove should be approximately 4 to 6 times the thickness of the sheet metal. (V = 4t - 6t)

2. Note: When bending at 90 degrees, the minimum width of the "V" groove should not be less than 4 times the thickness, as this could damage the mold or result in workpiece rejection.

3. If the bend size is too small and a "V" groove below 4t must be used, it is advisable to first bend to a suitable obtuse angle and then use a larger "V" groove to achieve a 90-degree bend.

4. For mold installation and alignment, refer to the "Bending Machine Operation Guide." Thoroughly clean the die and machine bed to ensure no dust or debris.

5. Use a lower die at least 300mm in length to remove it from the center of the machine, ensuring appropriate pressure to avoid damaging the mold.

6. Install the necessary molds for the current processing, ensuring proper positioning and securing with bolts/clamps.

7. Ideally, clamp the mold at the center of the machine bed to ensure stable and continuous operation of the machine.

Disassembly and storage of molds:

To disassemble the molds in sequence and methodically, depress the foot pedal to align the upper die with the lower "V" groove, loosen the fastening bolts/clamps of the upper die, and gently slide the upper die out from the "V" groove of the lower die from the side of the machine bed. Note: Never use your hands to hold the upper die from the front during disassembly.

After completion of processing, operators should wipe the molds clean, apply rust-proof oil, and store them in designated numbered locations for convenient use next time.

Bending precautions:

1. For arc processing, select molds based on the R value. The lower die can use a "V" groove slightly larger than the arc mold. When using straight or pointed tools for compression forming, ensure that the distance between bending sections is not too long to prevent noticeable tool marks on the workpiece surface.
